A low-flow showerhead and three faucet aerators are included in the Home Energy & Water Savings Kit
SDG&E® offers a complimentary Home Energy & Water Savings Kit that makes it easy for you to save energy, water and money. It’s good for the environment, too. The kit includes three faucet aerators and a low-flow showerhead. These easy-to-install devices allow air to enter into the water stream, maintaining a high-pressure flow while reducing water use up to 11%. With less water to heat, you can lower your monthly energy bill. Order your free kit or call SDG&E’s Energy Information Center at 1-800-644-6133.*

Warm up to winter with a furnace safety checkup

Heat your home safely and efficiently this winter. Start by scheduling an annual checkup of your gas furnace. Call SDG&E at 1-800-411-7343 or a licensed heating contractor.
Comfort and safety go hand in hand when you take good care of your natural gas appliances — and SDG&E® can help.
With winter approaching, it’s time to focus on your furnace. We can send a service technician to check and adjust your gas furnace for proper operation, and relight the pilot light, if needed. With an annual checkup and proper maintenance, your furnace can run safely and efficiently, helping you protect your family and your pocketbook. A licensed heating contractor can provide this service as well. To schedule a gas furnace inspection with SDG&E, call 1-800-711-7343 and have your SDG&E account number ready to enter when prompted. You may request other gas safety services, too. For example, SDG&E will:
Test for carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless gas that may form if a natural gas appliance is improperly installed, poorly maintained or misused. Carbon monoxide can cause nausea, drowsiness, flu-like symptoms and even death.
Investigate possible gas leaks
Provide gas shut-off and turn-on services as required for fumigation jobs.
Mark appliance controls for easier use by people with limited eyesight or blindness.
Mark where utility-owned lines are buried when you call 811 at least two workdays before digging so you can avoid the dangers and costs of damaging underground utilities.
Find out more tips about gas safety or call 1-800-411-7343. SDG&E representatives are available 24 hours a day to assist you.

Insinkerators (Garbage Diposals)

Disposals have a red reset switch on the bottom and also in the middle have a spot where you can use an allen wrench or a tool they call jam buster to manually turn it to free up jams. Disposals are not designed to grind up bones or similar items.

Sprinkler Operation

During the summer months your sprinklers shoud be set to more than three times a week and no longer than ten minutes at a time. Remember to turn your timer off when it is raining to save on your water bill and water conservation. During the winter months once a week is often enough.

Painting

When painting your interior walls I recommend using at least a semi gloss as your walls are easier to keep clean than when you paint with a flat paint.

Water shutoffs

When replacing a shutoff valve always replace with a quarter turn valve as these will last longer. It is a good idea to check your shutoffs at least yearly to ensure they work and not wait until you have a water leak and find that they will not turn off your water supply.

Faucets

If your faucet is leaking you should either replace the washers or the faucet as that drip will cause your water bill to be high.

GFCI's Ground fault circuit interrupters

GFCI's should be installed in all bathrooms and in all outlets near a sink for your safety.

Toilets

If your toilet runs periodically it could be something as simple as your flapper needing to be replaced. These need to be replaced periodically because they will deterioate and allow water to leak by. The cost of replacing these is usually under ten dollars which is a small cost which will reduce your water bill.

Smoke detector locations

Smoke detectors should be in all sleeping areas and kitchens.

Energy Conservation

Remember that with the weather turning colder check around your doors and windows to ensure you have a good seal to keep cold air out and the warm air in. SDGE will come out and do a survey for you and recommend measures you can do to reduce your utility bills.

Smoke Detectors

Remender to periodically check your smoke detector for proper operation and batteries should be replaced once a year.

Curb appeal

Remember that your first impression of something is usually the first. Therefore you want to make sure that when someone gets out of their vehicle in front of your house that it leaves a lasting favorable impression.
